The news hit hard and heavy, like a mountain. Then an actual mountain lifted my face; it healed my seeing with its timeless strength and beauty… and I felt myself as the mountain.
This song starts with my best friend, Lenise, calling at night to tell me her devastating medical diagnosis. We cried, broken. The next morning I hiked up a canyon and sat by a lake that reflected a majestic mountain. It spoke to me and as I lifted my eyes, the mountain raised my heart into the fullness of a higher knowing.
Years earlier, Lenise and I chose inspiring names for ourselves. Hers was "Divine Radiance," and I called her D.R. for short. Like a divinely radiant legacy, I feel the words, "See The Mountain" as a mantra of endless light. This song is gratefully dedicated to Lenise.
May you see the mountain and feel it beaming in your heart, too.

SPECIAL NOTE: In August of 2023 devastating Maui fires destroyed thousands of structures and took more than 100 lives. Many were left with only ashes and memories. This song came in response to the painful trauma and loss there.
A portion of Aloha Ke Akua's proceeds will help energy resilience and green rebuilding in communities like Lahaina, Maui following catastrophic events, through the nonprofit, Footprint Project. Check 'em out 😊

The Life Behind the Songs...
My childhood was richly infused with classical music, with my concert violinist Dad often sauntering through the house, practicing in his slippers. His frequent rehearsals and concerts provided my young imagination with vividly colored stories.
Learning to play the piano began early, with a regimen of recitals and competitions. In adolescence my parents tortuously divorced; my mom moved back to Japan and my world shattered.
I found comfort holding the same guitar I still love to play, building fingertip callouses while jamming with Grand Funk Railroad and Judy Collins on my grandparents' turntable. Songwriting became my daily solace in genres that superseded classical training.
The next few decades found me raising children, teaching music, obtaining certifications and offering sessions in transformational coaching and energy healing, and gigging with diverse bands.
Each Sunday I also shared music in various churches. These compassionate communities helped me move through a crippling fear of singing in public. As a teenager my body took in a derogatory comment about my singing. For decades my throat constricted when I sang. That was, as my son used to say as a toddler, "a BIG owey!"
Now I enjoy speaking and performing my songs in public venues, healing gatherings, special events and workshops. Songs have been ideal for helping my heart to relax, open and release. I hope your heart experiences this, too! ❤️
I marvel at the potency a song can deliver to dissolve illusions, awakening us to our Inner Radiance. And how these awakenings ripple out to evolve our patterns and relationships and--astonishingly, our whole tottering world.
My songs are self-recorded and produced in our Northern Nevada home studio. The Pine Nut Mountains peek in my window while diverse high desert birds offer their songs, too. It's "audio-painting" from a rich palette of sounds and possibilities that keep me ever intrigued.
From soothing instrumentals and chants to bare naked ballads and upbeat tunes -- song creation has attended me for over 50 years. It's how I live life, or Life lives me--all mixed up yet held intact by prevailing Grace.
I also like camping, finding cool rocks, putzing in the greenhouse, "body yawns" in my husband's Tai Chi Chih circles, watching and listening to mockingbirds and exploring the high desert mountains with our husky-wolf, Lilah.
