the songs have a very present quality to them;
every moment is enhanced,
with the effect of bringing the listener more fully alive

Peace One Day Akiko performed "Peace Arise," cowritten with M. C. Fletcher, at Truckee Regional Park on Peace Day, September 21st. The song was written after a young man delivering pizza was assaulted and killed on the street while dumfounded people watched.
Fellow musicians Dan Mangus, Claudia Waters, Tom Rinney, Laurie Martin, Kira Catanzaro and Morgan Raithel joined Akiko for the special performance. YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! "Spring Into Music" Blossomed on Saturday, June 18th

On Saturday, June 18th Got Music & More offered “Spring Into Music,” a free community event for families at the Community Arts Center in Truckee. It was pure musical fun, made possible by a stellar team of helpers, donors, instructors and performers.
As they signed in, families were given a free pass to the Kidzone Museum in Truckee, where my son recently discovered a beautiful aquarium with adjoining submarine. Thank you, Kidzone, for providing the passes to help spread the word about your delightful resources and activities!
Children, parents and developmentally disabled adults attended 10 music workshops in the morning. Warm thanks to my instructor team mates—Steve Kershisnik, Emily Tessmer, Morgan Raithel and Todd Wees. You each went above and beyond to facilitate a more vibrant understanding of music within your students.
Following the workshops we all enjoyed a sumptuous buffet donated by the Cottonwood Restaurant, Glenshire General Store, Starbucks, Port of Subs, Treat Box Bakery, Full Belly Deli, SaveMart and Safeway. Thank you for your delicious offerings!
After lunch master guitarist Robert Drake thrilled listeners with an interactive performance of music styles the world over. Special thanks, Robert, for sharing the gift of your amazing talent, instructive sharing and warm presence. Steve Kershisnik later joined Robert on bass for an exciting impromptu duo performance of new and familiar songs enjoyed by all. Thanks, Steve, for pulling those incredible riffs and solos out of your musical hat.
The awarding of gifts and door prizes followed, with donations from Starbucks, Todd Wees and Mountain Kids. Thank you for your generous support.
Our on-site helpers, including Criss Van Wey, Swenja Zieglar, Betsy Nye, Stacey Tedsen and Melissa Caboara, kept the transitions smooth and participants happy. Reyna Lopez and others assisted in translating. Heartfelt thanks for offering your time and energies for this event’s success.
Got Music also thanks Truckee Sunrise Rotary for their generous support, which helped this event to be free and accessible by everyone.
The Family Resource Center of Truckee's family advocates made special efforts to inform families of this event. Thank you, Emily, and all.
We appreciate Truckee Donner Recreation and Parks District for making the Community Arts Center available—we found it to be a comfortable, adaptable facility with a historical richness that enhanced the feeling of community. And thank you, Teresa of TDRPD, for your cheerful, helpful presence.
Lastly, to all the participants: know that your enthusiasm and appreciation for music and the arts is a vital spark in this community. Got Music welcomes your involvement in future music classes and events. We will continue to offer our best on a “whatever you can afford” policy.
Together we are “making a musical difference.” Thank you all!
