The child of a violinist father and pianist mother, Akiko honed her skills on the periphery of living room rehearsals and auditorium encores. After classical competitions and performances and stints in rock, folk, r & b, country and jazz ensembles, she now serves up a musical smorgasbord of songs on a plate of high caliber keyboard accompaniments. Favorite covers are served with interpretive subtleties that keep them fresh.
A BMI songwriter, Akiko cooks up enticing originals, too. On her own and in collaboration with New England poet and lyricist, M.C. Fletcher, she has created tantalizing musical delicacies. Then just when you’ve settled in with her voice and piano, she may pull out her weathered guitar to fingerpick and sing a few gems from the likes of Cat Stevens, Judy Collins, Leonard Cohen and others. Her soul music comes in many flavors and she serves them up exquisitely.
